  • You think your church has issues?
Let me tell you a story that might make those Sunday services seem a little more serene.
Every week in central Virginia a group of people get together to worship God. Unlike the services you will probably attend, no one will be wearing expensive suits and fancy schmancy dresses.
They won’t be wearing anything at all.
The congregants of White Tail Chapel don’t like the pretentiousness of regular churches, so they planted their church in the middle of a nudist colony. They enjoy Sunday services in what has to be one of the very few nudist churches in the world.
White Tail Chapel is a horrible unintentional pun. After all if you spend enough time nude there in the summer, they may have to change the name to Tan Tail.
But White Tail isn’t just a nudist colony for lovers. The resort bills itself as a family nudist resort.
In addition to chapel services where worshippers bare their soul and everything else, the resort features bowling, volleyball and other fun activities.
They even have a fitness facility. I wipe down machines and weights before I use them at my normal gym, if people were rubbing their naughty bits all over the place, I think I would learn to be satisfied working out at home.
Of course, all nudists think they are getting back to nature.
“There’s not a feeling that you have to be better than one another, physically,” Pastor Allen Parker said. “We’re humans, we have scars, we have what we have…it’s learning to love and accept that.”
I can love and accept your scars without seeing them. Please trust me on that. Don’t make me prove it.
I would never go to church naked. My birthday suit and my Sunday best are two entirely different things.
So when you show up Sunday morning, you can be thankful even if that pastor gets a little long winded, at least he got dressed.
And if someone swipes that last cup of coffee without refilling the pot, just appreciate the fact that they are wearing a shirt on which to spill that coffee.
No church is perfect, but some are better than others.
And as the White Tail Chapel proves, some are worse.
