Neighbors assist family who loses home

A family of five lost their home on Sunday morning after a devastating fire at Sunny Acres Trailer Park.
The Boonville Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 4:40 a.m., which took three hours and 20 minutes to extinguish. Residents were evacuated from a nearby mobile home by the Boonville Police Department because the blaze was getting very close to the other home.
Under further investigation and from an interview from the family, the cause of fire most likely originated in the kitchen.
Boonville Fire Chief Tim Carmichael, said the mid-20 degree temperatures made it easier for the 16 firefighters who responded to put out the fire.
“It was good that it was not much colder like it has been,” Carmichael said.
According to a release from the American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter, volunteers are assisting the family of five after meeting shortly after the fire.
'The Red Cross provided financial assistance for the family to meet their immediate emergency needs with the purchase of food, clothing and shoes. Family members also received Red Cross comfort kits, which contain personal hygiene items and stuffed animals for the children, and referrals to local partner agencies,' the statement read.
Family members are staying with neighbors.
