If you wanted to beat the cold, then the Kiwanis Chili Day was your day. The annual chili day on Wednesday at the Saints Peter and Paul Church basement, boasted the best turnout since the organization began to keep records five years ago.
With 325 individuals eating chili at lunch and 210 for dinner, Kiwanis member Josh Snoddy said he was pleased with the turnout. Snoddy said there were so many people, the organization had to quickly scurry up some more pies after running out during the dinner portion of the event. At the end, the extra chili was sold.
Money raised form the event could exceed the  $6,000 goal. Chili Day raises funds to support local youth activities such as Boonville High School Key Club, Boonville area Boy Scouts, Girl’s and Boy’s State, YMCA, 4-H, YMCA Easter Egg Hunt, Hospital Kid’s Day, Kid’s Fishing Day, Food Bank Buddy Backpack program, academic scholarships, and many other projects.
In addition, funds are raised from local individuals and businesses that donate silent auction items.
Compared to last year, 35 more bowls of chili were served.
