BTEC may add marketing classes in near future
Opportunities keep increasing at the Boonslick Technical Education Center. Additionally, hopes are rising with the proposal of a new marketing class, which could be offered to students in the near future if approved by the Boonville R-1 Board of Education.
According to BTEC Director Karen Brosi, adding a class such as Marketing could give students an added benefit since this position is highly needed in today's world. According to the United States Department of Labor, marketing is one of the fastest growing occupations in the country.
Furthermore, the school would form a DECA organization. According to deca.org, 'DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.'
The proposal outlines a handful of class options, which begins with Marketing for grades 9-12, followed by Advanced Marketing for grades 10-12. A Marketing internship will be offered to grades 11 and 12. Students who have completed the first two marketing courses will be able to get internships for 1-2 hours a day. BTEC Enterprises, Entrepreneurship, Global Marketing and Sports and Entertainment Marketing are other class opportunities that could be offered. Fields students will be able to be employed include the hospitality, travel and tourism industry.
The school board heard the proposal at Wednesday's meeting and were very optimistic about the opportunity given to the students. The option at this point has been tabled.
