  • Boonville swimmer Kassidy Monteer couldn’t have asked for a better start to the new year while competing in the Jeff City Pentathlon over the weekend.
While competing in five events, Monteer placed first overall in the 9-10 age group with a total time of 4:13.54.
With a total of 12 swimmers taking part in the pentathlon, Boonslick Heartland Aquatics Director Vanessa Dorman said the meet consisted of a 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle and 100 I.M. with the times divided by five with the top finishers being the strongest overall. She said medalists of the pentathlon needed to be strong in each of the four strokes.
The Boonslick Heartland YMCA Blue Marlins swim team took five of the eight awards in the girls division, which Dorman stated is a very impressive haul for a small team competing in a field of over nine teams from mid-Missouri.
Teams competing in the meet along with Boonville were Mexico, Lebanon, Washington, Jefferson City, St. Charles, O’Fallon and two teams from Illinois.
