  • Eleven area veterans received quilts handmade by volunteers of the Quilts of Valor organization. The quilts were given to the veterans during a ceremony at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Tuesday.
    The colors were posted by the Boone County VFW, Post 280 Honor guard.
    Among the veterans receiving quilts were Ronald W. Anderson, Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, who served in Phu Kat, Vietnam and Thailand; Lloyd Fahrenbrink , Specialist Five in the United States Army, who served in Vietnam; Wayne Harrington, Specialist E5 in the United States Army, who served in Vietnam; Jerry Hazlett, Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, who served in Vietnam; Russell James, Staff Sergeant in the United States Army; who served in Kuwait; Fred Juettner, Specialist Four in the United States Army, who served in Vietnam; Norman Lenger, Specialist Fifth Class in the United States Army, who served in Vietnam; Clarence Loesing, United States Navy, who served in the Pacific; Tom Loesing, Staff Sergeant and United States Army Reserves, who served in Vietnam and in Iraq; William Moore, Seaman in United States Navy, who served in Vietnam; and Homer Twenter, Carpenter's Mate in United States Navy, who served on Samara Island.
    After the quilts were given to the veterans, they were thanked for their service to the United States.
