Search for Magyar ends in tragedy
The body of deceased Boonville resident Mike Magyar was found Sunday morning in a wooded area behind his home located on Oregon Trail. A search for Magyar began Friday after a missing person's report was filed by the family.
According to a release from the Boonville Police Department Friday, Magyar had been missing since Tuesday morning. It was quickly determined there was no activity from his phone or credit cards.
A helicopter from the Missouri State Highway Patrol was called in Friday afternoon to assist in the search. The helicopter searched the area around his residence.
While the helicopter search yielded no results, a search party was organized for Sunday morning. Individuals met at Harley Park around 10 a.m. and were assigned certain areas to search.
Shortly after the search began Magyar’s body was discovered. According to the BPD no official cause of death has been determined at this time. An autopsy is being performed to determine how he died.
The BPD has stated that foul play is not suspected at this time.
Magyar was well known throughout the community and served on numerous boards. Individuals have poured out prayers and support for the family.
“Mike served on the Tourism Commission for three years. His passion and belief for what tourism could do for Boonville inspired and encouraged us. Mike's leadership will be sadly missed by staff and board members. We are proud to have served along side him and proud to call Mike a friend. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family,” stated a release from the Boonville Tourism office.
Magyar was a member of Boonville Rotary and was an agent for State Farm Insurance in Boonville.
Magyar's arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
