  • Regan Walker and Chloe Schlotzhauer each had 11 points, lead the Pilot Grove girls junior high basketball team past Bunceton in CCAA action Friday night at Bunceton.
    The Lady Tigers, 8-0 on the season, led Bunceton 32-12 at the half and 42-23 after three quarters of play. Bunceton held a 6-2 advantage in the final period.
    Pilot Grove coach Landon Daniel said this was one of the best game the girls have played all year.
    “The girls played really well as a whole unit and we got to get everyone in on the action,” Daniel said. “This group of girls is one of the most unselfish groups I have ever coached and it’s exciting to see that as early as junior high.”
    Kaitlen Weekly chipped in eight points for Pilot Grove while Melanie Wolfe added five, Emily Schupp four, Kylee Sprick and Aryn Lorenz each with two and Chawnett Hazlett with one.
    For Bunceton, Skyler Shuffield had eight and Lauren Wieland six.

    Blake Petsel and Brayden Doyle burned the nets for 10 points each as the Bunceton boys turned back Pilot Grove in CCAA action Friday night at Bunceton.
    The Dragons, 3-4 on the season, led Pilot Grove 16-12 at the half and 20-19 after three quarters of play before outscoring the Tigers 13-8 in the final period.
    Dylan Flatt had seven points in the game for the Bunceton.
    For Pilot Grove, Austin Kollmeyer had six, Anderson Twenter four, Garrett Streit and Ethan Williams three, Gavin Shepherd two and Kale Day with one.
    Pilot Grove coach Derek Skaggs said the boys are putting together a great first, second and third quarter effort and have to find a way to carry that momentum into the fourth quarter.
    “Our opponents have doubled our score in the last-three games coming down to the fourth quarter,” Skaggs said. “The guys are still working hard and there is a gain in the progress they have shown since the beginning of the season.”
    Bunceton coach Mike Arnold said his team played better defense tonight.
