SSPP Turkey Dinner, a staple in community since 1968

The Saints Peter and Paul Annual Turkey Dinner has been considered another success. Since the first Turkey dinner was held on December 8, 1968 at Saints Peter and Paul School, it soon outgrew the building and moved to its current location at Saints Peter and Paul Church in 1973.
The dinner has been a fundraiser for the school and usually serves traditional Thanksgiving style food in the early part of November. The theme for this year's Turkey Dinner, which was held on Sunday, was 'Open wide the doors to Christ.'
According to Saints Peter and Paul Church Secretary Flo Howard said the dinner was a success. Howard said for the largest part of the day the church hall was filled with individuals.
“Participation from the community was wonderful,” Howard said.
Besides food, decorations adorned the inside and outside of the church. Linda Grissum has chaired the decorating for the dinner and incorporated the theme in the décor for the past 10 years.
Marilyn Vanderfeltz and Kathy Lang chaired the dinner. At 5 p.m. the winner of the $5,000 was drawn, and was awarded to Steve Brengarth.
“It would not be a success without the community of our Church working together and the community of Boonville and surrounding areas attending our dinner,” Grissum said.
Grissum said they are blessed to be in a giving community.
