  • Bunceton boys and girls prevail against Malta Bend in CCAA

  • The Bunceton boys and girls junior high basketball team picked up a pair of wins on the road Tuesday night by beating the Malta Bend Tigers by the scores of 26-25 and 24-14, respectively.
    The Bunceton boys, 2-4 on the season, trailed Malta Bend 14-11 at the half 23-17 after three quarters of play before rallying back with a 9-2 advantage in the final period.
    Bunceton coach Mike Arnold said the boys did a great job coming back and playing with a lot of heart.
    Rylee Knapheide had the game-high for Bunceton with 17 points along with three rebounds, two steals and one assist.
    Blake Petsel added six points, four steals, four assists and one rebound while Braden Doyle had one point, six rebounds, two steals and one assist.
    For the Bunceton girls, they led Malta Bend 7-4 at the half and 13-10 after three quarters of play before pulling away with a 11-4 scoring edge in the final period for the victory.
    Arnold said the girls started out slow but played better in the fourth.
    Skyler Shuffield had 11 points and four rebounds to lead the Lady Dragons. Taylor Burnett chipped in eight points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist while Lauren Wieland added three points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists and Kylie Heilman with two points and one rebound.
