The Boonville Pirates soccer team fell on the road last night against the Mexico Bulldogs 4-2.
The Pirates, 8-11 overall and 2-9 in the NCMC, trailed 2-0 at the half after giving up goals at the 11 and 20 minute mark. Meanwhile, in the second half, the Bulldogs added another goal at the 55 minute mark to go up by a score of 3-0. Then, at the 60 minute mark, the Pirates finally got on the board on an assist from Alec Adair to Tyler Drew.
Unfortunately for Boonville, they never got any closer in the match as Mexico came back with its fourth goal at the 62 minute mark. Then, to finish the scoring in the match, Jake Lenz assisted Drew for his second goal at the 78 minute mark.
Boonville head coach Tim Brown said the Pirates made some silly mistakes early and were unable to catch up.
“Mexico controlled most of the play, especially in the midfield, and we missed some really good opportunity the few times we created them,” Brown said.
Mexico finished the match with 47 shot attempts and 19 shots on goal while Boonville had 11 shot attempts and six shots on goal.
Boonville senior goalie Nathan Green also had 15 saves in the match.
Mexico also had six fouls in the match compared to just one for Boonville.
In the JV match, Boonville and Mexico played to a 1-1 tie.
The Pirates scored first at the 25 minute mark on a penalty kick by Gabe Fenton while Mexico scored its only goal one minute later.
Mexico finished the match with six shot attempts and three shots on goal while Boonville had five shot attempts and one shot on goal.
Matt Shafer finished the match for Boonville with two saves.
Mexico had three fouls in the match while Boonville, 5-6-4 on the season, had none.
Coach Brown said the JV Pirates had a few chances, but most of this match was played between the boxes.
The Boonville Pirates soccer team will host Kirksville Tuesday night at the BHS Sports Complex in the season finale starting at 5.
