  • The Boonville Lady Pirates volleyball team had a up and down weekend while competing in the Eldon Tournament.
While finishing third in pool play, the Lady Pirates took down Southern Boone in the first round of bracket play in two straight games by the scores of 25-18 and 25-16. However, in the semifinal round against Blair Oaks, Boonville fell in two straight sets 25-23 and 25-19 to finish in a two-way tie for third with Dixon.
As for pool play, the Lady Pirates could have had a better start in the tournament while losing in two straight to both Blair Oaks and Dixon by the scores of 25-14 and 25-16 and 25-16 and 25-21, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the third round, Boonville finally got in the win column by beating Mexico in two 25-20 and 25-16.
At the beginning of pool play, Stone said the girls did not play to their level of ability.
“We struggled with several phases of the game,” Stone said. “We had trouble attacking consistently and against a team of Blair Oak’s caliber (20-3) record. You have to swing and be aggressive and we were unable to battle with them at a high level. We continued to battle throughout pool play and finally found some consistency in our team play and offensive rhythm as the day progressed. We played strong against Southern Boone and Blair Oaks in bracket play. The second time we battled Blair Oaks we took them to the wire the first set and were aggressive on offense. The second at the end of the game they were able to push through on some strong serving for the win as we struggled to win the long rallies that took place in this match.”
While finishing 2-3 on the day at Eldon, Stone said the girls didn’t start the day strong but they played much better toward the middle of the tournament and pulled together and had some great volleyball rallies in this tournament
“This was good experience for the final week of the regular season leading into postseason play,” Stone said.
Senior Kristin Hoff led the Lady Pirates with 28 assists along with 14 kills on 38 of 44 hitting, 12 service points with three aces, 12 digs and nine blocks.
