'Memories are made of this' at Ashley Manor
It was surely a memorable day for residents at Ashley Manor Care Center as they were being entertained by some of music's greatest stars from the past Wednesday afternoon.
Dean Martin, Tom Jones, Elvis Presley, Judy Garland and Doris Day were making sure the residents were enjoying themselves. How can this be while three of the singers mentioned are deceased?
For many years Ken Roberts of Rolla has been portraying singers of the past. He travels to nursing homes in Central Missouri helping residents enjoy themselves. He not only sings, he gets the residents involved as well. Making sure no one is left out, he makes his way around the room to each individual while doing his act.
Boonville resident Geraldine Walker was overjoyed and made sure she made the most of the fun.
“I have found I should go through life happy rather than being sad,” Walker said.
Walker said she has always been a go-getter in life.
Ashley Manor's Activity Director, Velma Lang portrayed Doris Day while Ashley Manor's Marilyn Ewings portrayed Judy Garland.
At times all three danced and sang together and some residents even got up to dance.
After almost an hour of memories, it was over but not before residents enjoyed food and drink in celebration of Walker's daughter, Mildred Nichols who will be getting married.
