The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team had little sympathy for the surging Fayette Lady Falcons Wednesday night in New Franklin.
With the Lady Falcons entering the game on a four-game winning streak, New Franklin all but crushed Fayette’s hopes for a fifth while exploding for 12 runs in the first-four innings for a 12-0 victory.
While the win improved New Franklin’s record to 10-2 overall, head coach Ross Dowell said the girls have hit the ball well and played good defensive with no errors two nights in a row.
“I thought the only down fall was we gave up four walks which I think we were trying to be too fine with our pitches instead of challenging Fayette hitters,” Dowell said.
That would probably be the only down fall for the Lady Pirates, as they out-hit Fayette 10-1 and forced six errors by the Lady Falcons.
Senior pitcher Kalani Pihana also tossed a one-hit shutout against Fayette. While picking up the win in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs, Pihana allowed just one hit and four walks in five innings while striking out one batter.
Clara Lutz, meanwhile, took the loss for Fayette by giving up 12 runs, five earned, on 10 hits and three walks.
As for the hitting in the game for New Franklin, Aislinn Himmelberg went 2-for-2 with a single, double and four RBIs.
Sara Montgomery was 2-for-4 with two singles and two RBIs while Claire Monnig added a double and one RBI. Aly Hundley and Jasmine Himmelberg also doubled in the game while Valerie Schlotzhauer and Megan Phillips finished the game with one single and one RBI and Kalani Pihana with one single.
For Fayette, Maddi Duren had the only hit with a single.
New Franklin also won the JV game against Fayette by a score of 6-2 in five innings.
The Lady Bulldogs, 2-1 on the season, scored two runs in the second, one again in the third and three in the fourth while Fayette scored both of its runs in the top-half of the third.
Cassie Armentrout picked up the win in relief for the Lady Bulldogs. Claire Monnig started the game for New Franklin and pitched the first-two innings and recorded three strikeouts. Armentrout then came in and pitched the next-two innings and allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three. Then, to finish the game, Madison Maupin pitched a perfect fifth inning.
New Franklin also out-hit Fayette 9-3, with Cassie Snider going 2-for-2 with a single, triple and three RBIs.
Valerie Schlotzhauer and Derian Dodson each had two singles while Rossetti Cleeton added one double, Cassie Armentrout and Abi Schapira each with one single and one RBI and Alex Nichol with one single.
