  • The New Franklin Bulldogs baseball and softball teams picked up a sweep Friday at home by beating the Atlanta Hornets by the scores of 4-3 and 15-0, respectively.
The Bulldogs baseball team, 3-4 overall, trailed Atlanta 3-0 before rallying back with three runs in the bottom-half of the sixth and one again in the seventh for the victory.
New Franklin coach Erich Gerding said Tyler Hull was a little rough early, but got through it in decent shape. “He definitely was not at his best, but he fought through it and gave us a chance to win, which we acted like we did not want to do for the first-five innings,” Gerding said. “Tanner and Jerrod both reached in the sixth, then Tyler came through with a big two-RBI hit, and Alex followed it with a RBI-single. In the seventh, we were able to take advantage of a few calls that could have went either way and Jerrod walked us off, also getting his first win as a Bulldog.”
Jerrod Riley picked up the win in relief for New Franklin. Tyler Hull started the game and pitched the first-six innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Riley then came in and pitched one inning in relief and struck out one batter.
New Franklin also out-hit Atlanta 5-4, with Riley going 2-for-3 with two singles and one RBI. Hull had one single and two RBIs while Alex Holem added one single and one RBI and Tanner White with one single.
As for the Lady Bulldogs, they never trailed in the game against Atlanta and led 1-0 after one and 15-0 after two.
New Franklin coach Ross Dowell said it was good finish to the week. “We ended up 4-0 this week,” Dowell said. “However, we have Salisbury, Brunswick and Fayette and the North Callaway Tournament this week. We need to keep playing well and see what happens.”
Claire Monnig picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs, 8-1 overall. In three innings, Monnig gave up no runs on no hits while striking out four batters.
Abby Prewitt went 1-for-2 in the game for New Franklin with a triple and one RBI.
Claire Monnig was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while Sara Montgomery added a double and one RBI and Rosetti Cleeton with one single.
The New Franklin baseball and softball teams will host the Brunswick Wildcats in CAC action on Tuesday, Sept. 10th starting at 5 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will then host Fayette in a JV and varsity game starting at 4 p.m.
The New Franklin baseball team, meanwhile, will host Jamestown on Friday, Sept. 13th starting at 5 p.m.
