The Pilot Grove Tigers baseball team held off a rally by Bunceton in the final inning for a 8-7 win in CCAA action last night in Bunceton.
The Tigers, 2-0 overall and in the conference, scored four runs in the third, three again in the fourth and one in the sixth to go up 8-1. However, in the bottom-half of the sixth, Bunceton rallied back with six runs to cut the lead to one.
Pilot Grove coach Clint Poulsen said the Tigers got out to a big lead and after making some substitutions we allowed Bunceton to get back in the game. “Trenton came in and struck out the last two to get the save with the bases loaded and us up by one run,” Poulsen said. “Our hitting was pretty good for the most part and should continue over the next week.”
Regan Meisenheimer picked up the win on the mound for Pilot Grove while Andrew Pritchett took the loss for Bunceton. Meisenheimer pitched the first-four innings and struck out three batters while giving up one walk. Pritchett, meanwhile, pitched all six innings and struck out seven batters while giving up eight runs on six hits and four walks.
Pilot Grove also out-hit Bunceton 6-1, with Jacob Twenter going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Alex Twenter also doubled while Grant Felten, Brady Felten and Darrin Kammerich added a single and one RBI each and Keaton Vollrath with one single.
Dylan Custer had the only hit in the game for Bunceton, being a single.
