New Franklin cheerleaders to compete at state
The New Franklin High School cheer squad will compete in the MCCA State Cheerleading Championships on Saturday September, 14 at the Hearnes Center on the University of Missouri Campus. Cheerleading Coach Jennifer Stutzer explained that New Franklin will compete in Division 1-A small against approximately 14 other schools such as Glasgow, Marceline, and Father Tolton Regional Catholic High School to name a few.
"I am so proud of how far my squad has come in the past four years. Not just in competition, but In basketball season as well. We have come so far and have added more difficulty. This is only our second year competing at state, but this year we know what to expect and we are ready to perform," Squad Captian Abi Schapira said.
The squad placed fifth at the MCCA regional competition held July 18 at Moberly Area Community College, which secured them a spot in the state competition. Team members include Captain Abi Schapira, Co-Captains Valerie Schlotzhauer and Megan Borges, Katie McCulloch, Grace Volkmann, Aislinn Himmelberg, Jayci Sprout, Saundra Perkins and Grace Chambers. The competition is open to the public with a $10 admittance fee.
