The Boonville Pirates JV football team fell on the road Tuesday night in the season opener against the Moberly Spartans 26-0.
Boonville JV football coach Joe Henke said he thought it was a typical first game in that they struggled at times tackling and blocking.  “We are an extremely young and inexperienced team and we will have some growing pains throughout this season,” Henke said. “I was encouraged with our passing game last night.  Nick Zeitlow had a very good night completing passes to Makiah Waibel and Giovanni Strickland.”
Zeitlow finished the night 10 of 20 for 64 yards. Waibel led all receivers with five catches for 41 yards, while Strickland had four catches for 18 yards, and Tyler Johnson with 1 catch for 5 yards.
All in all, Henke said the Pirates struggled matching the physicality of Moberly and could not sustain drives.  “I look for continued improvement this season in all phases of the game,” Henke said.
