  • The Boonville Lady Pirates softball team couldn’t have had a better bounce back game than last night’s conference opener against the Hannibal Pirates.
After losing 14-1 in five innings Wednesday night in the second opener against the Columbia Hickman Kewpies, the Lady Pirates came back last night against Hannibal with 19 runs on 17 hits in only three innings for a 19-1 victory.
While the win improved Boonville’s record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the NCMC, head coach Christie Zoeller said the girls definitely came out and played their game tonight. “Our bats were definitely awake tonight,” Zoeller said. “We were also very aggressive on the bases, which was a lot of fun to watch. We also played well defensively. We played error-free ball which is what we need to do to win games. I am proud of the girls and the way they played tonight, and I am excited for what is yet to come.”
The first inning pretty much said it all last night, as the Lady Pirates exploded for 14 runs in the first inning on 11 hits. Boonville also sent 19 batters to the plate in the inning with four extra base hits, one of which came off the bat of sophomore Miranda Northern, who crushed a two-run home run over the left field field. Taylor Ellebracht, Devin Ellebracht and Michelle Surratt also doubled in the inning.
Speaking of Surratt, the sophomore hurler also had a bounce back game against Hannibal while giving up just one run on three hits and one walk in three innings for the win. Surratt, 1-1 on the season, also struck out three batters.
Hannibal’s only run of the ballgame came in the top-half of the second on back-to-back singles by senior Meghan Grimes and Sara Blankenship.
However it was pretty much the same in the bottom-half of the second as Boonville exploded for another five runs on a RBI-single to center by Addy Reardon, a two-run single to left by Kiley Barnes and back-to-back infield singles for two runs by Havyn Monteer and Olivia Imhoff.
As for the hitting in the game, the Lady Pirates had six players with at least two hits or more in the game against Hannibal.
Addy Reardon went 3-for-3 with two singles, one double and three RBIs. Olivia Imhoff was 3-for-4 with three singles and three RBIs while Taylor Ellebracht added a single, double and one RBI, Havyn Monteer and Kiley Barnes each with two singles and two RBIs, Michelle Surratt with two singles and one RBI, Miranda Northern with a home run and three RBIs, Millie Moyer with one double and Devin Ellebracht with a single and two RBIs.
For Hannibal, Rachel Halterman took the loss in the circle by giving up 11 runs on seven hits and two walks in one-plus innings.

The JV game was pretty much the same as Boonville scored early and often against Hannibal for a 8-1 victory.
The Lady Pirates, 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the NCMC, scored four runs in each of the first and third innings against Hannibal. Hannibal, meanwhile, scored its only run in the top-half of the fourth.
Boonville JV coach Stacey Bishop said it was definitely a great night to be a Lady Pirate.
“We did so many good things tonight,” Bishop said. “Kiley is very strong on the mound and her ball moves well which kept their hitters guessing. Cheyenne complimented her nicely when she took over in the second inning. The combinations of the different speeds made it difficult for Hannibal to make contact. Of course they had a solid defense behind them to help out when Hannibal was able to hit the ball. I’m very happy with the way the girls played tonight. They played hard despite the heat, and it showed just how determined they were to get the job done.”
Kiley Barnes picked up the win in the circle for Boonville by striking out  four batters in two innings. She also gave up only one hit. Cheyenne Schuster then came in and pitched two innings in relief and struck out three batters while giving up one run on two hits.
Boonville also out-hit Hannibal 9-3, with Courtney Timm going 2-for-2 with a single and a triple. Madolyn Stodgel and Taylor Schempf also had two singles while Kiley Barnes doubled and Havyn Monteer and Taylor Fisher each singled.
