Council approves annexation issue to be placed on Nov. ballot

The Boonville City Council voted to approve the annexation measure for the November ballot at their Monday evening special meeting at the Boonville City Council Chambers.
The vote was unanimous. Boonville Ward Two Councilman Noah Heaton thanked the city staff for doing a good job in preparing and answering questions during the annexation hearings and preparation.
To pass in November, a majority vote will be needed. The proposed annexed area includes the Highway 87 corridor towards I-70, with an area just under 300 acres. If the annexation proposal passes, a voluntary annexation of the Hail Ridge Golf Course development will occur. This will connect the Highway 87 and I-70 interchange to the city, allowing for future development.
In further news, the council decided to approve the imposition of an increased sales tax on hotel room rentals. This is also known as the bed tax.
The council also heard the first reading of approving the final site plan for the Central Missouri Community Action parking lot on the Kemper Greens Development, located at 385 Ashley Road.
