The Boonville R-1 Board of Education approved a District Health Coordinator position at the Wednesday evening meeting.
This position's responsibilities include consulting with other health staff in the district regarding incidents and special cases. The individual will also consult with the building administration and Special Services Director on an ongoing basis and communicate with Cooper County Health Officials. The position will be a 179-day a year job. The board has yet to establish a salary for the position.
In new business, the board decided not to increase non-resident tuition and non-eligible transportation fees. This decision came after Boonville Schools Superintendent Mark Ficken said he would advise against an increase because of student riders who go to Saints Peter and Paul.
A presentation was given by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Human Resources Shelli Adams regarding the Network for Education Effectiveness Program (NEE). Adams said they are participating in the pilot version of this program, which promotes growth in teachers along with administrators. She said the program allows for multiple evaluations throughout the year, allowing the administration to give feedback on areas needing improvement and to work with the teacher in those areas throughout the year. While teachers get to know more about their evaluations, administration staff will be trained to give evaluations in a similar manner, making less room for discrepancies.
The program is being facilitated by the University of Missouri and intends to provide effective and timely feedback for teachers.
The board decided to adopt the measure unanimously.
The tax levy hearing was held at the beginning of the meeting. Ficken discussed the measure and said the effects would be very slight, adding an additional $3 per $100,000 assessed value on an individual's property taxes. No one came to voice any concerns on this proposed levy.
In other news, the board decided to approve the tax rate for the 2013-14 school year.
