New Franklin teen to host garage sale to benefit MDA
Local high school student Tanneal Hoover from New Franklin is hosting the Annual Casey's Convenience Store Rummage Sale on August 17. Hoover, apart from battling Muscular Dystrophy, is also the mid-Missouri MDA Goodwill Ambassador. All proceeds of the sale will go directly to MDA to pay for summer camps and research to find a cure for children like Hoover.
Hoover will be Pumping Gas for a Cure from 5-7 p.m. on the day of the event. There will also be face-painting, a bake sale and other activities to make the fundraiser a success.
Hoover is a sophomore at New Franklin High School. In addition to being a talented vocalist and artist, she has been the Central Missouri Goodwill Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for the past two years. Tanneal was diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth, a form of Muscular Dystrophy in 2004, after years of toe-walking and leg pains, she underwent surgery in 2005 to lengthen her Achilles tendons. However, the effects of the procedure were short-lived, and yet another surgery was needed in 2011. After eight weeks of cheerleading in her casts and wheelchair, Tanneal was able to make a full recovery with the help of orthotic braces, which she wore day and night for two years.
Hoover attends MDA Summer Camp at Camp Windemere each summer. In order to give back to the organization, which has done so much for her, she hopes to have a successful fundraiser.
Donations to the sale will be greatly appreciated, which includes any typical rummage sale items, including furniture, operable appliances and electronics, clothing, and household items. In addition, any volunteer personnel is welcome. The Hoover family and the MDA would like to thank the Boonslick community for their continued support.
Donation pick up is available if needed on Thursday, August 15; for more information, please contact Tanjie Hoover at (573) 825-7804, email at email@example.com, or like the event on Facebook: 2013 Casey's MDA Rummage and Bake Sale.
