New Franklin School District prepares for the new year

School officials from the New Franklin R-1 District are currently preparing for the new school year. The first day of classes will start on Monday, Aug. 19. Before the school year begins though, there are a few things that need to be completed.
According to a release from the New Franklin School District parents should examine the health needs of their children. The school nurse is available during the middle school orientation and the elementary open house to discuss any special health needs of the child(ren).
All children need to be up-to-date on their immunizations by the time school begins. It is mandatory that all students be in compliance with the state law before attending school. A copy of the Missouri School Immunization requirements will be available in the nurse's office.
A DT booster shot is required every 10 years. For most children, this is approximately at age 15 or 16. Any immunizations received during the summer should be reported to the school nurse, so the child's record will be complete.
The bus routes will remain the same for this year. In the morning, buses will deliver students to school by 8 a.m., and deliveries home will begin at 2:55 p.m. All students are expected to follow the bus rules and obey the bus driver. If there are any questions concerning the bus routes, contact Wayne Schlotzhauer at 848-2112 or after 4 p.m., 848-2311.
High school or middle school students new to the district may come to the high school principal's office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for enrollment. To enroll new students parents will need to sign a release form to obtain previous school records, have a current copy of their child's immunization records and provide proof of residency for the district.
The middle school orientation will be held on Friday, August 16, from 4- 6 p.m.
Parents of elementary students new to the district need to stop by the elementary office as soon as possible any time Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parents are asked to bring a copy of their child's birth certificate and  social security card along with proof of residency in the school district. This does not apply to children who participated in the kindergarten screening held last spring.
Kindergarden students must have been 5 years of age before August 1, 2013. Students who have not yet enrolled need to contact the principal's office at 848-2112.
There will be an elementary open house on Friday, August 16, from 4-6 p.m. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher at the open house.
