Boonville – Unlimited Opportunities is happy to announce the groundbreaking for their new building. On August 7 at 10:30 a.m., invited guests, staff and clients will see the official start of the new building at 1620 W Ashley Road. This event will start the process that will bring UOI employees, clients and programs back together when the building is completed late in 2014.
Since the fire on February 2, 2012 that destroyed the Unlimited Opportunities building, employees and clients have looked forward to the day they would be all together again at the UOI property. The new building will be home to Savvy Seconds Resale Store, BII Recycling Center, the Individual Supports Program, Family Support Program, Community Employment Services, BII Day Program, administrative offices, and Cooper County Case Management offices. The agency provides services for individuals with disabilities, and since the fire, has continued operations from 3 “temporarily permanent” locations in Boonville.
Last fall, nFORM Architecture of Springfield, MO was chosen from a field of four firms who presented their visions of the new UOI home. Working with UOI department managers, they created a building that will accommodate current needs and allow for future growth. Savvy Seconds Resale Store will be at the front of the building, providing easy access for people to shop at their favorite store. The offices and programs will be in the middle of the building, and The BII Recycling Center will be at the back of the property. Plenty of parking will provide for safe, convenient access to the various parts of the building, and there will be green space for outdoor activities for the program participants and staff.
A special fundraiser is planned to coincide with the groundbreaking. The new building’s foyer will have an engraved brick “Memorial and Honor Wall”. Engraved bricks can be ordered to honor a special anniversary, in remembrance of a loved one, to commemorate an achievement or life event, or any reason that holds meaning for the purchaser. Examples of the bricks will be displayed at the groundbreaking, and can be ordered there. Information brochures will also be available.
Proceeds from the brick fundraiser will be used to support UOI programs for individuals with disabilities. Program goals are varied and specifically tailored to each individual participant. These can include: increasing self-sufficiency and personal freedoms, developing personal care skills, job exploration and training, developing life skills, and becoming more involved in one’s community.
UOI invites you to follow their progress on their Facebook page: Unlimited Opportunities, Inc (UOI Boonville) and their website: www.uoi.org. Bricks will be available to order on the website after the August 7 groundbreaking. Donations are always accepted through the website or by mail to: Unlimited Opportunities, Inc. PO Box 239, Boonville MO. The public is invited to call the agency, 660-882-5576, with any questions about the new building, the groundbreaking event, or the Memorial and Honor Wall fundraiser.
