  • Strains of “It's an Everywhere Fun Fair” could be heard throughout Vacation Bible School at the United Methodist Church last week. The theme of this year's VBS, a joint effort of Prairie Home United Methodist and Prairie Home First Baptist churches, was “Everywhere Fun Fair: Where God's World Comes Together”.  Each evening the children sang songs, saw a skit, heard a Bible story, learned a Bible verse and a “friendship phrase”, and learned about neighbors from around the world (Japan, Zimbabwe, Australia, and Mexico).  They also did crafts and experiments that reinforced the evening's theme.
In keeping with the neighborly theme of VBS, the offering went to Heifer International, whose mission is to “work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth." The goal was to be able to purchase a Flock of Hope (chicks, ducks and/or goslings, depending on cultural, climate and dietary differences among peoples), but this group was so generous there was enough money collected to buy two Flocks of Hope!
It takes a lot of volunteers to have a successful Vacation Bible School. Helpers included: Brenda Sells, Jessi Menold, Nancy Kixmiller, Jackie Bruner, Jenny Alpers, Kathy Alpers, Jennifer Lenger, Shanna Alpers, Meagan Alpers, Cindy Lenger, Austin Small, Morgan Angle, Jasmine Couch, Charlotte Newell, Austin Alpers, Amy Small, Jackie Patton, Terri Noblet, Shelby Salzman, Myron Couch, Janet Deneke, Sheila Brown, Tonya Gemma, Marsha Stewart, Frances Backus, Delores Woods, Nancy Gipson, Dana Newell, Glenda Sells, Vicki Fain, Kay Sells, Nancy Kirschman.
