  • Edward Jones knocks off UMB Bank 2-0 in Senior Babe Ruth

  • Alliant Bank upends Pilot Grove 17-1 in the nightcap on Sunday

  • For only the second time this season in Senior Babe Ruth, UMB Bank met defeat Sunday night against Edwards Jones by a score of 2-0.
    After blasting Pilot Grove Saturday night 16-0, UMB Bank had little offense against Edward Jones while managing just six hits in seven innings.
    As for the nightcap, Alliant Bank wasted little time getting out in front against Pilot Grove while exploding for nine runs in the first-two innings en route to a 17-1 victory in five innings.
    Of course the loss did little to change the standings in SBR. UMB Bank still leads at 8-2 overall, followed by Alliant Bank at 6-4, Edward Jones at 5-5 and Pilot Grove at 1-9.
    In one of the best played games all summer in SBR, UMB Bank and Edward Jones combined for just one error in seven innings.
    Unfortunately for UMB Bank, they were also shutout both times by Edward Jones, who plated one run in each of the second and sixth innings of play for the victory.
    Addison Jobe picked up the win on the mound for Edward Jones while Josh Judd took the loss for UMB Bank.
    Jobe pitched all seven innings and struck out eight batters while giving up no runs on seven hits and no walks. Judd, meanwhile, pitched six innings and surrendered two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven.
    Despite being out-hit by UMB Bank 7-6, Tyler Silvey led Edward Jones with two singles while scoring one run. Jobe had the only extra base hit in the ballgame with one double and one RBI while Alec Viertel, Nick Ruffy and Alex Gerlach each had one single. Nathan Green also drove in one run and threw out a runner at the plate from left while Caleb Hein scored one run.
    For UMB Bank, John Reese went 2-for-3 with two singles while Sean Lorenz, Jalen Poindexter, Josh Judd, Jay Barnhart and Alex Matthews each had one single.
    In the nightcap, Alliant Bank led Pilot Grove from start to finish by plating three runs in the first, six again in the second, three in the third and five in the fourth to win by the mercy rule.
    Pilot Grove, meanwhile, scored its only run in the top-half of the second.
    Chase Snapp was the winning pitcher in the game for Alliant Bank while Trenton Young took the loss for Pilot Grove.
    Snapp pitched the first-five innings and struck out eight batters while giving up one run on four hits and one walk.
    For Pilot Grove, Young pitched the first-two innings and surrendered nine runs, three earned, on seven hits and four walks while striking out three. Jonathan Gerke then came in and pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and yielded eight runs, three earned, on five hits and five walks while striking out three. Jacob Twenter then came in and pitched 2/3 inning in relief and issued no runs, no hits and no walks.
    Page 2 of 2 - Alliant Bank also had 12 hits in the ballgame, with Kelsey Callaway going 3-for-4 with one single, triple, one home run and seven RBIs. Callaway also drove in three runs.
    Trevor Day was also 3-for-4 with two singles, one double, one RBI and three runs scored while Kendall Kraus added two singles and one run scored, Andrew Broyhill with one triple and two RBIs, Landon Ball and Ryan Brown each with one double, one RBI and one run scored, Collin O’Connell with one single, one RBI and one run scored, Zach Nixon with four runs scored, Chase Snapp with two runs scored and Nate Paris with one run scored.
    For Pilot Grove, Isaac Lorenz went 2-for-3 with two singles while Layne Hoff added one single and scored one run while Brady Rentel had one single and one RBI.
    In games on Saturday, Alliant Bank won by forfeit over Edward Jones while UMB Bank blanked Pilot Grove by a score of 16-0.
    In the nightcap, UMB Bank jumped out to stay against Pilot Grove by sending one run across in the first and nine again in the second to make it 10-0. Meanwhile, after a scoreless third and fourth innings, UMB Bank added to its total with a six-run fifth to win by the mercy rule.
    Jared Oser picked up the win on the mound for UMB Bank while Keaton Vollrath took the loss for Pilot Grove. Oser pitched all five innings and gave up just one hit, while Vollrath pitched the first-two innings for Pilot Grove. Grant Felten also pitched two innings while Austin Hammond threw one inning in relief.
    Sean Lorenz, Jared Oser and Austin Henderson also had two hits each for UMB Bank while John Reese homered, Jay Barnhart doubled and Jacob Francis, Tyler Spence, Andrew Tutin and Alex Mathews each singled. Jalen Poindexter also had one RBI.
    For Pilot Grove, Grant Felten had the only hit with a double.
