They ranged in all shapes and sizes along with all ages over the weekend while participating in the Sixth annual “Play with the Pros” All-Sports Camp at the BHS Sports Complex in Boonville.
While receiving an NFL Grant for $2,500 for the first time, the two-day camp featured everything from speed ladders for the kids along with agility bags, low hurdles, tire flipping and tug of war.
Atiyyah Ellison, one of the directors of the camp along with Matt Schneringer, said Rick Ball Auto Mall also contributed $500 as a t-shirt sponsor for the event while Isle of Capri in Boonville donated hotel rooms for everyone that came in to assist with the camp.
Dr. Phil Rumbaoa and Matt Rowlett also served as the official trainers for the event.
Of course the main atttraction other than the camp was the interaction with the many pro football players such as CJ Mosley of the Detroit Lions, Chase Reynolds of the St. Louis Rams and Brandon Williams of the Baltimore Ravens. Tony Palmer, a former player for the Missouri Tigers football team, also helped out along with Ellison, who played for the Tigers and spent several years in the NFL.
Ellison said it is our choice whether or not we push ourselves to our full potential, and by bringing in the guys from the NFL each year reminds the kids that they, too, are just regular individuals that wouldn’t settle for less than being the best and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. “Chase Reynolds, the running back from the Rams, is actually from a town of 300 people and look where his perserverance has taken him,” Ellison said. “It truly is great to be able to offer this experience free of charge to all area youth.”
