Edward Jones player Alex Holem couldn't have hit any better last night in Senior Babe Ruth action against Pilot Grove.
While playing first base, Holem went 4-for-4 with three singles, one double and three RBIs to lead Edward Jones past Pilot Grove 15-5 in five innings.
As for the nightcap, UMB Bank moved one step closer to the championship by rallying from a 5-0 deficit after two with 10 unanswered runs for a 10-6 victory.
Edward Jones, 4-4 on the season, trailed Pilot Grove 5-1 after 1 1/2 before rallying with 14 straight runs over the next-four innings to win by the mercy rule.
Edward Jones also out-hit Pilot Grove 12-6, with four different players collecting at least two hits or more. Five of Edward Jones' hits also went for doubles.
Caleb Hein went 2-for-3 with a single, double and one RBI while scoring two runs. Nathan Green was 2-for-2 with two singles, two RBIs and two runs scored while Quincy Banuet added two singles, one RBI and two runs scored, John Watson with one double, three RBIs and one run scored, Alex Viertel with one double, one RBI and three runs scored, Nick Ruffy with one double, one RBI and one run scored, Dylan Albertson with one single and Addison Jobe with one run scored.
Jobe also picked up the win on the mound for Edward Jones while pitching in relief of starter Dylan Albertson. Jobe pitched five innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks while striking out six.
For Pilot Grove, Jonathan Gerke took the loss by scattering nine runs, two earned, over three innings. Gerke also gave up nine hits and two walks while striking out three. Jacob Twenter then came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and surrendered six runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four.
Gerke also had two singles and two RBIs in the game for Pilot Grove, 1-7 on the season, while Jacob Twenter added two singles and one run scored, Jared Schupp with one single, one RBI and two runs scored, Grant Felten with one single and Brady Rentel and Austin Hammond each with one run scored.
In the nightcap, Alliant Bank jumped all over UMB Bank early with three runs in the bottom-half of the first on the three-run dinger by Landon Ball.
But then to make matters worse for UMB Bank, Alliant Bank also plated two runs in the second on doubles each from Trevor Day and Kelsey Callaway to go up 5-0.
Unfortunately for Alliant Bank, they never led again in the ballgame as UMB Bank came back with five runs in the top-half of the third on two walks, two errors and a three-run home run by Jalen Poindexter to tie the game at 5-all.
Page 2 of 2 - UMB Bank never trailed after that while adding four more runs in the fifth with three straight hits, which started with a RBI-double by John Reese. Josh Judd then followed up Reese' hit with a RBI-triple while Tyler Spence had a RBI-single.
UMB Bank also tacked on one run in the seventh on back-to-back singles by Judd and Spence.
Meanwhile, in the bottom-half of the seventh, Alliant Bank added one run when Jordan Bledsoe hit a single to score Trevor Day.
John Reese picked up the complete-game victory for UMB Bank while Landon Ball took the loss for Alliant Bank.
In seven innings, Reese struck out seven batters and gave up six runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks.
Ball, meanwhile, pitched the first-three innings for Alliant Bank, who dropped to 4-4, and surrendered five runs, three earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out one. Trevor Day then came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and allowed four runs on three hits and five walks while striking out two. Then, to finish the game, Chase Snapp pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief and yielded just two hits while striking out two.
UMB Bank, who improved to 7-1, also out-hit Alliant Bank 10-5, with Josh Judd going 3-for-4 with two singles, one triple and two RBIs. Judd also scored one run.
John Reese also had three hits, one of which went for a double, with one RBI and two runs scored.
Tyler Spence added two singles, one RBI and one run scored while Poindexter finished the game with a three-run home run, three RBIs and one run scored, Jared Oser with one single and one run scored, Alex Mathews with one RBI and one run scored and Jacob Francis with two runs scored.
For Alliant Bank, Trevor Day went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Landon Ball finished the game with a three-run home run, three RBIs and one run scored while Kelsey Callaway had one single and one RBI, Ethan Sander with one single and one RBI and Chase Snapp and Collin OConnell each with one run scored.
