AB beats Edward Jones 11-1 in six innings; Jalen Poindexter leads UMB Bank past Pilot Grove 14-2
Let’s just say it wasn’t the best Senior Babe Ruth had to offer Tuesday night at Twillman field in Harley park.
With the season winding down next week, Alliant Bank and UMB Bank picked up two laughers last night. Led by the five-hitting pitching of Ethan Sander, Alliant Bank defeated Edward Jones 11-1 in six innings. Meanwhile, in the nightcap, Jalen Poindexter went 3-for-3 with three RBIs as UMB Bank upended Pilot Grove 14-2 in five innings.
Despite being out-hit 10-5, Edward Jones jumped out on top with one run in the top-half of the first. But even that was short-lived as Alliant Bank rallied back with four runs in the bottom-half of the inning on a grand slam home run to left by Ethan Sander to make it 4-1.
Alliant Bank never trailed after that while adding another run in the second, five in the fourth on a RBI-single by Kendall Kraus and a two-run home run by Landon Ball to extend the lead to 10-1. Then, after a scoreless sixth by Edward Jones, Kraus drove in his third run of the game for Alliant Bank with a RBI-single to make it 11-1.
Sander also picked up the win on the mound for Alliant Bank. In six innings pitched, the right-handed hurler struck out eight batters and gave up one run on five hits and three walks.
For Edward Jones, Caleb Hein took the loss by giving up four runs on two hits and two walks in the first. Alec Viertel then came in and pitched two innings in relief and surrendered one run, unearned, on two hits and two walks while striking out two. Meanwhile, after Quincy Banuet pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and allowed four runs, all unearned, on two hits and three walks while striking out one, Alex Holem came in and pitched two innings and issued two runs, one earned, on two hits and one walk while striking out one batter.
Kraus and Ball also had two hits each in the game for Alliant Bank, 4-3 on the season. Ball went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBIs. He also scored one run.
As for Kraus, he was 2-for-3 with a single, double, three RBIs and one run scored. Sander had a grand slam home run, four RBIs and scored two runs while Trevor Day added a RBI-single and Kelsey Callaway and Chase Snapp each with one single.
Callaway also scored three runs while Snapp and Nixon came across to score two runs.
For Edward Jones, Alec Viertel went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Tyler Hull also doubled and drove in one run while Nick Ruffy and Nathan Green each had one single. Caleb Hein also scored one run.
In the nightcap, UMB Bank jumped out to stay against Pilot Grove with one run in the top-half of the first.
Unfortunately for Pilot Grove, they had no answer for UMB Bank while giving up four more runs in the second on a RBI-double by Sean Lorenz and a RBI-single by Jalen Poindexter to trail 5-0.
UMB Bank also plated six runs in the third on a two-RBI single to right by Jacob Francis, one error, one hit batter and three walks to extend the lead to 11-0.
Meanwhile, in the fourth, UMB Bank added three more runs on the RBI-double by Jay Barnhart to go up by a score of 14-0.
Pilot Grove couldn’t get anything going for the first-four innings but found the plate in the fifth with two runs on three walks and a two-RBI single by Austin Hammond to closeout the scoring.
Jacob Francis picked up the win on the mound for UMB Bank while Brady Rentel took the loss for Pilot Grove. Francis pitched all five innings and gave up two runs on one hit and four walks while striking out seven.
Rentel, meanwhile, pitched the first-two innings for Pilot Grove and surrendered five runs, four earned, on four hits and three walks while striking out one.
Isaac Lorenz then came in and pitched one inning and allowed six runs, all unearned, on two hits and three walks while striking out one. Meanwhile, after Ben Glenn pitched one inning in relief and issued three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one batter, Austin Hammond came in and pitched one inning in relief and yielded one hit and one walk while striking out one.
Poindexter finished the game for UMB Bank with two singles, one double and three RBIs.
Sean Lorenz had a single, double, one RBI and three runs scored while Jay Barnhart added a double, one RBI and one run scored, Tyler Spence with a double and three runs scored, Jacob Francis with one single, two RBIs and two runs scored, Josh Judd with one single and one run scored, Alex Matthews with one RBI and one run scored and Austin Henderson with three runs scored.
For Pilot Grove, who dropped to 1-6, Austin Hammond had the only hit with a single while Keaton Vollrath and Alex Twenter each scored one run.
