  • While capturing the first win in Lewis & Clark Baseball League history for the Explorers, a premier college baseball league in the St. Louis-metropolitan area, Central Methodist pitcher Rhett Quinlan also learned that he will be the starting pitcher for the Lewis & Clark League All-Star Game tonight at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
While sporting a record of 1-1 on the season with an ERA of 0.74, Quinlan has also pitched a total of 24 1/3 innings and surrendered three runs, two earned, on 10 hits and two walks while striking out 25 batters.
Quinlan, a left-handed pitcher for the CMU Eagles baseball team, was also recently selected as the Player of the Week for the Explorers. In eight innings, Quinlan gave up just one hit while striking out 11 batters in 99 pitches.
Game time is at 7:30 p.m. and all-stars from the Pathfinders and Travelers will play against the all-stars from the Explorers and Pioneers.
The Lewis & Clark Baseball League launched in 2013 under the forming of Nicholas Mahrt and Kevin Paule. While coaching summer baseball in the St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League, Nicholas and “KP” concluded that the summer collegiate baseball scene lacked an opportunity for college baseball players to pursue both aspects of their college experience-players were forced to choose between playing baseball and forgoing a chance to sharpen their baseball skills. As a result, Mahrt and KP formed the LCBL to give college baseball players the opportunity to do both.
All teams in the LCBL will play approximately 30 games, mostly on the weekend, to enhance both their career skills and their baseball skills during the summer.
“This is truly a fabulous opportunity for parents and friends to watch these players show their abilities at a famed venue. To patrol the outfield with Matt Holliday and Carlos Beltran cover ground is unreal. To sit behind the dish where Yadier Molina toils is going to be great. I can wait,” said league commissioner Nicholas Mahrt.
