A&W explodes for 8 runs in the fourth to beat KFC, 10-5
KWRT’s Dalton Vaughn had little idea of what to expect entering Monday’s game against Imhoff Appliances in Junior Babe Ruth action at Twillman field in Harley park.
While KWRT entered Monday’s game at 1-12 overall, Vaughn helped his team chalk up win No. 2 by going 3-for-3 at the plate with two singles, one double and four RBIs as KWRT defeated Imhoff Appliances 10-7.
As for the second game, A&W continued its winning ways by turning back KFC 10-5.
In addition to collecting three hits, Vaughn also scored two runs for KWRT. But it gets better. He was also the winning pitcher by scattering five runs over seven innings. He also struck out five batters and gave up eight hits and four walks.
KWRT also led Imhoff Appliances from start to finish by plating one run in the first, six again in the third and three in the fourth to go up 10-0. Of course Imhoff Appliances didn’t go down without a fight while rallying back with two runs in the bottom-half of the fourth and five again in the fifth.
Mason Hage also had a two-hit night for KWRT and finished with a single, double and two RBIs. Isaac Lorenz contributed two singles, two RBIs and scored three runs while Ethan Waibel added two singles and one run scored, Brady Gholson with one single and two runs scored and Ben Horst and Christian Kosnopfal each with one single.
For Imhoff Appliances, who dropped to 3-11 on the season, Jaylen Butner went 2-for-3 with two singles and three RBIs while Makiah Waibel added two singles and scored one run. Lucas Gerke doubled and scored two runs while Josh Dalton added one single and one RBI and Bryce Fuemmeler and Conner Pond each with a single and one run scored.
In the nightcap, A&W and KFC appeared to be in for a battle after playing the first-two innings without a score.
But that soon changed in the third inning as A&W’s Jady Reese slapped a ground ball single to right to score Trent Monk for the first run.
A&W never trailed after that while exploding for eight runs in the fourth on six hits and one error to extend the lead to 9-0.
However, after pushing across eight runs in its half of the fourth, A&W also gave up four runs in the bottom-half of the inning on a RBI-single by Morgan Browning, a RBI-double by Joel Concannon and a RBI-single by Kyle Chrisman. A&W also had one error in the inning to fuel KFC’s comeback to cut the lead to 9-4.
Both teams tacked on another run after that, with A&W sending one run across in the fifth and KFC one in the seventh.
