Mineral Area rallies back in loser’s bracket to force tie

Boonville’s 8U All-Stars and Mineral Area had quite the little controversy over the weekend while competing at the Babe Ruth State Softball Tournament in Monett.
With Boonville advancing to the title game on Sunday undefeated, Mineral Area battled its way back through the loser’s bracket while playing three consecutive games. But where the controversy comes in to play is that after falling to MABA 11-5 in the championship game, Boonville’s first loss, the two teams couldn’t agree on when to play the “if” game. As it turned out, they settled on being co-champs.
Boonville and MABA also hooked up in the opening round of the tournament Friday night, with the 8U All-Stars winning that game 12-11.
While playing to a 10-10 tie after four, the Boonville 8U All-Stars came back and outscored MABA 2-1 in the sixth for the victory.
Amera Wright led the hitting attack in the game for Boonville, going 4-for-4 with three singles, one triple and two RBIs.
Lexie Maddex was 3-for-4 with two singles, one double and one RBI while Olivia Eichelberger added three singles and two RBIs, Addi Brownfield, who was named best defensive fielder of the tournament, with one single, one double and one RBI, Zoey Lang and Skyler Andrews each with two singles and one RBI, Alyssa Gross with two singles, Allison Eichelberger with one double and two RBIs, Hannah LeGrant with one single and two RBIs and Alexis Schnetzler with one single.
For MABA, Stephanie Wright, Christy Stevens, Aspen Tongay, Hannah Stillman and Emily Drennan each had three hits.
In the second game, which was held on Saturday, the Boonville 8U All-Stars defeated the Hurricanes 17-6 in four innings.
Boonville led the Hurricanes 4-3 after one and 7-6 after two before plating five runs in each of the third and fourth innings of play for the victory.
The Boonville 8U All-Stars also out-hit the Hurricanes 22-10, with Skyler Andrews leading the way with one single, two doubles and three RBIs.
Amera Wright and Addi Brownfield each had three singles and three RBIs while Zoey Lang added three singles and two RBIs, Lexie Maddex with three singles and one RBI, Olivia Eichelberger with one single, one double and two RBIs, Cassidy Bishop and Hannah LeGrant each with two singles and one RBI and Alyssa Gross with a RBI-single.
For the Hurricanes, Aven Pennell went 2-for-2 with two singles.
In the third and final game of the tournament on Sunday, Boonville led MABA 5-3 after two  before giving up eight unanswered runs over the next four innings to suffer the loss.
Jessie Gidden led the hitting parade for MABA with four singles and two RBIs.
For Boonville, Amera Wright again led the team in hitting with two singles, one double and two RBIs.
Lexie Maddex had three singles and one RBI while Olivia Eichelberger added a single and one double, Skyler Andrews with two singles, Alyssa Gross with one double and one RBI, Abby Fuemmeler with a RBI-single and Zoey Lang with one single.
