The Boonville JV High School Traveling team dropped a doubleheader Sunday at Twillman field in Harley park, losing to Kirksville 4-2 and 7-0.
While the second game ended in a forfeit due to Boonville not having enough pitching, the first game was too close to call. Kirksville led Boonville 2-1 after one and then added two more runs in the fourth to go up 4-1. Meanwhile, in the sixth, Boonville sent another run across to cut the lead in half.
Conner Pond took the loss on the mound for Boonville by giving up four runs on four hits and four walks in five innings. Pond also struck out three batters. Makiah Waibel then came in and pitched two innings in relief and walked three batters while striking out two.
Jady Reese had the only extra base hit in the ballgame for Boonville, being a double, while Alex Wright and Conner Pond each had one single.
Boonville’s JV High School Traveling team will host Columbia Rock Bridge in a doubleheader on Tuesday, July 2 at Twillman field in Harley park starting at 6 p.m.
