  • Blue Marlins dominate quadrangular with 83 first-place finishes

  • To say that the Boonslick Heartland YMCA Blue Marlins swim team dominated last Saturday’s meet in Boonville would be a huge understatement.
    While hosting Fayette, Centralia and Waverly in a quadrangular meet at the Boonville Lions Aquatic Center, the Blue Marlins may have also set a record by placing first in 83 events.
    Five Boonville swimmers also had a perfect day in the pool. While Colby Caton, Allison Drummond, Brant Whitaker and Bailey Magyar captured first in five events, Caitlyn Spoonmore was not far behind while capturing first in four events.
    Caton, who competed in the 7-8 age group, captured first in the 25-yard backstroke, 25-yard freestyle and 25-yard butterfly and also swam the first and third leg in two relays, which nabbed first-place finishes.
    Drummond, meanwhile, won the 25 back, 25 free and 25 butterfly in the 6-and-under age group and competed on two relays teams, which also captured first.
    As for Whitaker, he took first in the 100 I.M., first in the 25 free, first in the 25 fly, first in the 25-yard breaststroke and first as a member of the 100 free relay team in the 9-10 age group.
    Magyar was also a perfect 5 for 5 by placing first in the 50 back, first in the 50 free, first in the 50 fly and first as a member of the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay in the 13-14 age group.
    Spoonmore, meanwhile, captured first in the 15-18 age group in the 100 I.M., 50 back, 50 free and as a member of the 200 free relay.
      Other swimmers who captured first-place finishes in individual events for Boonville were  Carlie Daniel in the 7-8 age group and Madeline Browning, Elana Kramm,  Kassidy Monteer and Sydney Morris in the 9-10 age group,
    Daniel placed first in the 100 breaststroke and 25 fly and third in the 25 back. Browning, meanwhile, took first in the 25 fly, second in the 25 free and fifth in the 25 back. As for Kramm, she took first in the 25 free, third in the 25 back and fourth in the 200 free.
    Monteer also had two first-place finishes in the 100 I.M. and 200 free. Monteer also placed second in the 25 back.
    As for Morris, she finished first in the 25 back, second in the 25 fly, second in the 25 breaststroke and sixth in the 25 free.
    In the 6-and-under age group, Mabry Caton placed second in the 25 free and third in the 25 back.
    In the 7-8 age group, Ross Brackman took second in the 25 breaststroke, fourth in the 25 free and fifth in the 25 back.
    Max Eckerle also competed in the 7-8 age group and finished second in the 25 fly, second in the 24 free and fourth in the 25 back.
    Elijah Elliott, another swimmer in the 7-8 age group, took second in the 25 back, third in the 25 free and third in the 25 fly.
    Page 2 of 3 - Marian Hoelscher, meanwhile, placed fourth in the 25 fly, sixth in the 25 free and seventh in the 25 back.
    Lydia Meller, Rayghan Skoufus and Olivia Wadeen also held their own while competing in the 7-8 age group. Meller took fifth in the 25 breaststroke, fifth in the 25 fly, ninth in the 25 back and 11th in the 25 free. Skoufus, meanwhile, placed third in the 25 breaststroke, fifth in the 25 free and fifth in the 25 back. As for Wadeen, she finished fourth in the 25 breaststroke, eighth in the 25 free and 14th in the 25 back.
    Boonville also had a plethora of swimmers in the 9-10 age group.
    Jordan Brackman, a first-year swimmer for Boonville, placed third in the 25 breaststroke, fourth in the 25 back and seventh in the 25 free.
    Huston Force, meanwhile, placed second in the 25 breaststroke, second in the 25 back and third in the 25 free.
    Mikayla Gramlich took fifth in the 200 free, sixth in the 25 back and ninth in the 25 free. Hailey James finished fifth in the 100 free, sixth in the 25 fly, 10th in the 25 free and 10th in the 25 back. Last but not least, Kayla Myers placed third in the 25 fly, fifth in the 25 free and eighth in the 25 back.
    In the 11-12 age group, Olivia Conrow took third in the 50 fly, seventh in the 50 back and ninth in the 50 free. Millie Dorman, meanwhile, placed fourth in the 50 back, fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 50 breaststroke.
    In the 13-14 age group, Sammy Roberts finished second in the 50 back, second, in the 50 free and second in the 50 fly. Kyleigh Skoufus, meanwhile, placed third in the 50 free, fourth in the 50 breaststroke and fifth in the 50 back.
    Also, in the 15-18 age group, Feona McMurry took second in the 50 fly, third in the 50 free and third in the 50 back.
