Pilot Grove snaps a four-game skid by beating Edward Jones 3-2 in the nightcap

For 5 1/2 innings last night in the first game in Senior Babe Ruth, UMB Bank and Alliant Bank stood toe to toe tied at 5-all.
However in the bottom-half of the sixth, UMB Bank took advantage of a few hits and costly errors by Alliant Bank by exploding for six runs en route to a 11-5 victory.
Meanwhile, in the nightcap, Pilot Grove snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Edward Jones 3-2.
UMB Bank, who is now the sole leader in SBR at 4-1 overall, trailed Alliant Bank 2-1 after the first inning before rallying with four runs in the bottom-half of the fourth to make it 5-2. Needless to say, Alliant Bank used the long ball to get back in the ballgame while pushing across one run in the fifth and two again in the sixth to tie the game at 5-all.
Unfortunately for Alliant Bank, they appeared to have nothing left as UMB Bank broke the game wide open with six runs in the bottom-half of the sixth for the victory.
Josh Judd, who pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief of John Reese, was the winning pitcher in the game for UMB Bank while Chase Snapp took the loss for Alliant Bank, 2-3 on the season.
John Reese started the game for UMB Bank and pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and five walks while striking out four. Judd then came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and allowed one run on three hits while striking out two.
For Alliant Bank, Ethan Sander pitched the first-three innings and surrendered one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three. Chase Snapp then came in and pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief and issued nine runs, eight earned, on seven hits and four walks while striking out two. Then, to finish the game, Ryan Brown pitched 2/3 innings and yielded one run on one hit and three walks while striking out two batters.
Judd also led the hitting attack for UMB Bank with a double, triple, two RBIs and one run scored.
Jay Barnhart and Jacob Francis each had a single, double and one run scored while Jalen Poindexter added a double and three RBIs, Jordan Copeland with one single, two RBIs and one run scored, Sean Lorenz with one single, one RBI and two runs scored, John Reese with a single and one run scored, Tyler Spence with two runs scored and Jared Oser and Alex Matthews with one run scored each.
For Alliant Bank, Chase Snapp and Zach Nixon each had two singles, one triple and one run scored while Ethan Sander added a single, home run, one RBI and one run scored, Trevor Day with a home run, one RBI and one run scored, Kendall Kraus and Ryan Brown each with one single and one RBI, Austin Henderson with one single and Landon Ball with one RBI.
In the nightcap, Edward Jones jumped out on top with two runs in the top-half of the first.
Meanwhile, after playing to two scoreless innings in the second and third, Pilot Grove rallied back with one in the fourth and two again in the fifth for the victory.
Trenton Young picked up the win on the mound for Pilot Grove while Alec Viertel took the loss for Edward Jones.
Young pitched 6 1/3innings and gave up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out 10. Jonathan Gerke then came in and pitched 2/3 innings in relief and allowed one hit.
For Edward Jones, who dropped to 3-2 on the season, Caleb Hein pitched the first-three inning and surrendered just two hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Alec Viertel then came in and pitched two innings in relief and issued three runs, all unearned, on three hits and two walks while striking out four. Then, to finish the game, Dylan Albertson pitched one inning and yielded one walk.
Trenton Young also went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI while Colton Glenn added one double, Regan Meisenheimer, Jacob Twenter and Jonathan Gerke each with one single, Grant Felten with one RBI and Grant Vollrath with two runs scored and Isaac Lorenz with one run scored.
For Edward Jones, Alec Viertel went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored.
Dylan Albertson was 1-for-3 with one single and one run scored while Alex Holem and Quincy Banuet each had one single.
Senior Babe Ruth will continue on Saturday, June 29th, with Pilot Grove playing UMB Bank at 6 p.m. and Alliant Bank battling Edward Jones at 8 p.m.
Note: A make-up game will be held on Saturday, July 6th with Edward Jones playing Alliant Bank at 6 p.m. and UMB Bank battling Pilot Grove at 8.
