  • Boonville Legion picks up sweep against Versailles

  • Boonville’s Legion baseball team picked up a sweep last night on the road against Versailles, winning by the scores of 4-1 and 7-4.
    In the opening game against Versailles, Boonville broke a scoreless tie after three innings by pushing across two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings of play to go up 4-0. Meanwhile, after failing to score for the first-six innings, Versailles finally got on the board with one run in the bottom-half of the seventh.
    Chase Snapp picked up the win on the mound for Boonville, who dropped to 7-3 overall, while Wood took the loss for Versailles. Snapp pitched all seven innings and gave up one run on six hits and one walk while striking out nine. Wood, meanwhile, pitched all seven innings for Versailles and surrendered four runs, three earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out six.
    Boonville also out-hit Versailles 7-6, with Kendall Kraus going 3-for-3 with three singles and one run scored. Jalen Poindexter was 2-for-3 with a single and a double while Sean Lorenz added one double and two RBIs, Zach Nixon with one double, one RBI and one run scored and Caleb Hein and John Reese each with one run scored.
    For Versailles, Bolton went 2-for-3 with two singles and one run scored.
    In the nightcap, Versailles jumped out on top early with one run in the bottom-half of the first. Then, after Boonville plated one in the top-half of the second to tie the game at 1-all, Versailles came back and added another run in each of the second and third innings of play to make it 3-1. That also turned out to be the last lead in the ballgame for Versailles as Boonville came back with two in the fourth, three again in fifth and one in the sixth for the victory.
    Zach Nixon picked up the win on the mound for Boonville while Bolton took the loss for Versailles.
    Jacob Francis started the game and pitched the first-three innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters. Alec Viertel then came in and pitched one inning in relief and walked one while striking out two. Then, to finish the game, Nixon pitched two innings and issued one run, unearned, on one hit and one walk while striking out two.
    Sean Lorenz went 3-for-4 in the game for Boonville with three singles and one RBI. John Reese was 2-for-3 with one single, one double and three RBIs while Jalen Poindexter, Alec Viertel and Nick Ruffy each had one single and one run scored, Tyler Silvey with three runs scored, Kendall Kraus with one run scored and Trevor Day with one RBI.
    For Versailles, Bolton went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run scored.
    Page 2 of 2 - Boonville’s Legion baseball team will play tonight in the Sedalia/Warrensburg Tournament in Warrensburg against the host team starting at 8:30 p.m. Then, on Saturday, June 22nd, Boonville will play Harrisonville at 1 p.m. and Moberly at 6 p.m. in Warrensburg.
