  • Thirteen children gathered at the Hain House Gardens with one goal in sight, becoming Little Mr. or Miss Heritage Days. The two individuals receiving  this distinct honor were Sophia Donahue and Landon Breshears of Boonville. These two children will be featured in the Annual Heritage Days Parade on Saturday, which begins at 11 a.m.
The pageant, which boasted a line of questions from two judges from Columbia, lasted for a couple hours Wednesday evening. Each child walked up on stage to tell the judges a little bit about themselves, including what they did for fun and what their favorite thing about Heritage Days is. Some children were a little nervous at first but soon eased up as the event progressed.
The scores were tallied and everyone was brought back on stage to receive their prize. The last two contestants were the individuals who won the highest honor.
Parents could register their children as early as Monday.
"We would like to have had a lot more male contestants. The girl slots filled up at 5:30 p.m.," event volunteer Jessica Ellison said.
Little Mr. and Miss Heritage Days were very happy about the new outfits they will be wearing during the parade. Breshears will wear a large colorful elaborate hat with a sash and Donahue will wear a tiara along with a sash.
"I like wearing this hat. Red is my favorite color," Breshears said.
"I will play princess," Donahue said.
The rest of the children won a prize in their respective categories.
The other children who participated included Miranda "Randi" Cottrell who won 'Most Confident,' Mylie Edwards won 'Best Dancer,' Kadence Taylor won 'Best Personality,' Cadence Shelton won 'Best Gamer,' Makayla Cordes won 'Most Outgoing,' Alexys Brumback won 'Ms. Congeniality,' Braylon Ellison won 'Best Interview,' Alycia Felgar won 'Prettiest Hair,' Ava Mesecher won 'Best Smile,' Taytum Browder won 'Best Dressed' and Kinzie Dungan won 'Prettiest Eyes.'
