  • UMB Bank still going strong after beating Alliant Bank 5-4 in Senior Babe Ruth

  • UMB Bank continued its perfect run in Senior Babe Ruth last night by topping Alliant Bank by a score of 5-4.
    UMB Bank, 3-0 on the season, out-hit Alliant Bank 8-4 and led from start to finish while pushing across three runs in the top-half of the first and one again in the third to make it 4-0.
    Alliant Bank didn’t go down without a fight, though. After failing to score in the first-two innings, Alliant Bank rallied back with one run in the bottom-half of the third and two again in the fourth to cut the lead to one at 4-3. Meanwhile, after UMB Bank added another run in its half of the fifth, Alliant Bank came back and tacked on one in the bottom-half of the inning to closeout the scoring.
    Josh Judd picked up the win on the mound for UMB Bank while Zach Nixon took the loss for Alliant Bank, who dropped to 1-2 on the season. In seven innings, Judd struck out six batters and gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks. Nixon, meanwhile, pitched the first-five innings and surrendered five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five. Trevor Day then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed just one hit while striking out two batters.
    Jacob Francis went 2-for-3 in the game for UMB Bank with a single and a double. Francis also scored one run.
    Josh Judd went 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored while Jordan Copeland and Austin Henderson added one single and one RBI each, Jalen Poindexter and Jared Oser each with one single and one run scored, Andrew Tutin with one single and Sean Lorenz with one run scored.
    For Alliant Bank, Kelsey Callaway went 3-for-4 with two singles, one double and two RBIs. Landon Ball was 2-for-3 with two singles and one RBI while Zach Nixon had one single, one RBI and one run scored, Ryan Brown and Chase Snapp each with one single and one run scored and Trevor Day with one run scored.
    In the nightcap, Pilot Grove matched Edward Jones for at least one inning and a half while playing to a 1-1 tie in the first inning and a 2-2 ballgame after 1 1/2. However it was pretty much all Edward Jones after that with three runs in the bottom-half of the third and 10 again in the fourth to win by the mercy rule.
    Alex Holem pitched all five innings to pick up the win on the mound for Edward Jones, 2-1 on the season, while Grant Felten took the loss for Pilot Grove, who dropped to 0-3 overall.
    In five innings, Holem gave up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters.
    Page 2 of 2 - Felten, meanwhile, pitched the first-three innings and surrendered five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two.
    Grant Vollrath then came in and pitched 1/3 inning and issued five runs on one hit and three walks. Meanwhile, after Alex Twenter pitched part of the fourth and yielded five runs on three hits and four walks, Brady Rentel came in and pitched 2/3 inning and allowed just one hit while striking out one batter.
    Edward Jones also out-hit Pilot Grove 12-6, with Aaron Waibel going 2-for-3 with a single, double, two RBIs and one run scored. Caleb Hein was 2-for-3 with a single, double, one RBI and one run scored while Nathan Small added two singles, one RBI and two runs scored, John Watson with two singles and two runs scored, Alex Holem with one double, two RBIs and one run scored, Alec Viertel with one single, one RBI and two runs scored, Nick Ruffy with one single, three RBIs and one run scored, Austin Hinkle with one single, one RBI and one run scored, Nathan Green with two runs scored and Quincy Banuet and Addison Jobe each with one run scored.
    For Pilot Grove, Isaac Lorenz and Jared Twenter each had one single and one run scored each while Jonathan Gerke, Alex Twenter, Keaton Vollrath and Jared Schupp finished the game with one single apiece.
