  • Boonville’s Senior Legion baseball team had a little bit of the good with the bad last night while hosting Blair Oaks in a doubleheader at Twillman field in Harley park.
First with the good. While beating Blair Oaks 9-3 in the first game on nine hits and no errors, Boonville also had one of those games they would like to forget in the nightcap while giving up nine runs on 19 hits in a 9-0 loss.
Of course the first game couldn’t have gone any better for Boonville, as they exploded for five runs in the bottom-half of the first to go up 5-0. And even though Blair Oaks tagged pitcher Caleb Hein for three runs in the top-half of the third to cut the lead to two at 5-3, you still had a feeling that Boonville was in complete control of the game. As it turned out, Boonville had plenty of runs yet to score while adding one in the bottom-half of the third and three again in the fifth for the victory.
Caleb Hein picked up the win on the mound for Boonville while Pritchett took the loss for Blair Oaks.
Hein pitched the first-six innings and gave up three runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five batters. Ethan Sander then came in and pitched one inning in relief and struck out one batter.
Boonville also out-hit Blair Oaks 9-6, with Zach Nixon going 3-for-3 with two singles, one double, one RBI and two runs scored.
Nick Ruffy finished the game with two singles and three RBIs while Jalen Poindexter added a double, two RBIs and one run scored, Caleb Hein with a RBI-single, Sean Lorenz with one single and two runs scored, Trevor Day with a single and one run scored and Ethan Sander, John Reese and Alec Viertel each with one run scored.
For Blair Oaks, Wilbers and Stegemann each had two hits.
In the nightcap, Blair Oaks jumped out to stay by pushing across two runs in the first and six again in the second inning. Meanwhile, after holding Boonville scoreless through the first-four innings, Blair Oaks came back and tacked on another run in the fifth for the victory.
Pritchett picked up the win on the mound for Blair Oaks while Addison Jobe took the loss for Boonville.
Pritchett pitched all five innings and gave up four hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. Jobe, meanwhile, pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on nine hits. Ryan Brown then came in and pitched one inning in relief and surrendered one run on six hits and two walks. Then, to finish the game, Chase Snapp pitched  2 2/3 innings in relief and issued one run on four hits while striking out one.
Page 2 of 2 - Verhoff went 4-for-4 in the game for Blair Oaks with four singles and three runs scored while Eskens added two singles, one double and one run scored, Haney with three singles, one RBI and one run scored and Hoelscher with three singles and one run scored.
For Boonville, Tyler Hull, Kendall Kraus, Ryan Brown and Tyler Silvey each had one single.
Boonville’s Senior Legion baseball team will play a doubleheader on Saturday, June 8th at home against Macon starting at 1 p.m. Then, on Sunday, June 9, Boonville will host Versailles in a twinbill at Twillman field in Harley park starting at 1.
