The 25th Annual Run for the Wall occurred Monday as 300 motorcyclist were making their journey to Washington D.C. on I-70. The event began in California on May 15 and will end in Washington on May 24. Riders of the motorcycles consist mainly of veterans.
According to rftw.org, Run For The Wall recognizes the sacrifices and contributions made by all veterans who have served the nation.
Along the way Veterans of recent conflicts and those currently on active duty were welcomed to join. Toward the end of the journey, there are over a thousand riders participating.
Boonville resident Tom Burns has participated in the ride for the past three years. This year he rode to Columbia along with New Franklin Mayor Frank Frevert.
"It is outstanding for the veterans," Burns said.
In 2011 and 2012 Burns made the trip to Washington.
