The Boonville Daily News had a close call last night in Cal Ripken Minor by holding off a rally in the fifth inning for a 10-8 victory.
The BDN, 2-2 on the season, opened the game with four runs in the top-half of the first and then sent two runs across in the second and three again in the fourth to make it 9-0. Of course A-Bow-K didn’t go down without a fight. After pushing across two runs in the bottom-half of the fourth, A-Bow-K gave up another run in the top-half of the fifth to trail by a score of 10-2. However, in the bottom-half of the fifth, A-Bow-K rallied back again with six runs to cut the lead to two.
Nathaniel Krebs picked up the win on the mound for the BDN while Brayden McFarland took the loss for A-Bow-K, who dropped to 2-3 on the season. Krebs pitched the first-two innings and struck out five batters while giving up one hit. McFarland, meanwhile, pitched the first-two innings for A-Bow-K and surrendered six runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one.
Boonville Daily News also out-hit A-Bow-K 10-4, with Krebs collecting two singles and three RBIs. Wyatt Shay and Jacob Vossler each had a single and a double while Drew Vossler added one double and one RBI, Chandler Stonecipher also with one double, Alex VanDyke with one single and three RBIs, Axton Nease with one single and two RBIs and Nick Boynton with a RBI-single.
For A-Bow-K, Hunter Tarr had two singles while Charlie Bronakowski added one double and four RBIs.
