National Nursing Home Week is being observed in Boonville from May 12-18 with celebration from residents at area nursing homes and a proclamation signed by Boonville Mayor Julie Thacher.
The theme for this year's celebration is 'Team Care'. According to the American Health Care Association, the theme recognizes residents and patients in long term and post-acute care settings and the dedicated staff who care for them. The observance is an opportunity to involve families, community members, youth and others in a community-wide show of support and respect for these individuals and the staff who provide care or support services.
Activities are different depending on the nursing home and how they wish to celebrate the event.
Lakeview Health Care and Rehabilitation Administrator Karen Burns said the mayor came to the facility and read the Proclamation issued by the governor. She then added residents released balloons to lift off the week.
The proclamation stated the residents of local nursing facilities have contributed immeasurably to the their community's heritage over the years. It continues to state nursing home residents are living examples of history of their communities. Nursing Home Week will honor the positive bond that develops between residents and their caregivers, which results in not only better physical care and healing, but also the enrichment of the mind, heart and spirit.
