  • The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team moved one step closer to its first-ever district title last night after knocking off fourth-seeded Father Tolton 3-0 in the opening round of the Class 1 District 8 Tournament at the BHS Sports Complex.
The Lady Pirates, 11-8 on the season, will play Fulton for the championship in the district on Wednesday, May 15th at the BHS Sports Complex starting at 6 p.m.
Fulton advanced to the title game by beating Southern Boone of Ashland by the same identical score of 3-0.
While playing for the title last year in Class 2, Boonville Lady Pirates soccer coach Tim Brown said Father Tolton is a vastly improved team from when they saw them a month ago. “For a team that starts nearly all sophomores, in a couple of years, they should be really tough,” Brown said. “We played pretty well, overall, and our second and final goals were very clean finishes from senior McKenna McAreavy off of quality crosses from senior Bailey Pfeiffer. It was also the first time since April 11 that we had all of our opening day starters on the field. We will play against Fulton for the district title-we defeated Fulton twice during the season by the scores of 2-1 and 1-0.”
In the game last night, the Lady Pirates wasted little time getting out in front against Father Tolton when senior Bailey Pfeiffer scored on a penalty kick at the 13-minute mark in the match to make it 1-0. Then, at the 39 minute mark, Pfeiffer assisted McKenna McAreavy on a shot right in front of the goal to extend the lead to 2-0 at the half. Pfeiffer and McAreavy would hook up again in the second half at the 57 minute mark to push the lead to 3-0.
McAreavy had two of the team’s three goals on the evening while Pfeiffer had one goal and two assists.
Boonville finished the match with seven shots on goal and 18 shot attempts while Father Tolton had only one shot on goal and 11 shot attempts.
The Lady Pirates also had five fouls in the match compared to just one for Father Tolton.
As for saves, junior Cassidy Renfrow had a quiet night with only one.
