Debi and Amanda of the Kirksville Tourism Department share insights on Kirksville's best treasures and offer suggestions about what to do, where to go, and how to play in your own backyard.
Spring is really here with lilacs blooming and flowering pear and pink and white crab apple trees and red buds blossoming. Tulips and irises in many colors have opened their tight buds just recently. All these flowers have inspired the Tourism Office to plant flowers too. We have initiated a pilot program this year to do a little local beautification by planting pots of flowers around town. We began with a pot of flowers in front of our own office and visitor’s center.
We plan to partner with at least a dozen local businesses, to have pots of flowers around town to welcome visitors. We will begin by assisting the local hotels and B & Bs in planting flowers. Then we hope to partner with several more businesses. The tourism office will provide the planters and match the cost of flowers to each of a dozen businesses that will participate. Trumascape has generously provided potting soil and concrete bricks for our project.
We hope to inspire additional businesses all around town plant flowers or set out pretty pots of flowers that will welcome visitors to Kirksville this summer. Let us see how pretty we can make our own back yard.
