The Boonville Post Office is joining the National Association of Letter Carriers in the 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive set for Saturday, May 11. This will be the 21st year the drive has taken place and will involve many volunteers.
Individuals are urged prior to getting their mail to place canned or any non-perishable food items near their mail box. These items will be picked up by the mail carriers or volunteers that day who will then deliver them to the post office.
"The carriers work really hard every year for this event. We get a lot of volunteers and retirees to come together for this event," Boonville Postmaster Michelle Phillips said.
Volunteers will gather at the Boonville Post Office around 8:30 a.m. to assist in collecting food at people's doors. Food will be weighed at the post office following collection. They will then bring the food to the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Pantry.
The food gathered will feed Boonville area residents.
