  • The Bunceton Dragons baseball team had the perfect cure Tuesday night while playing the Otterville Eagles in a single varsity game in Bunceton.
After going 1-1 Monday night in a doubleheader at Higbee, the Dragons stormed back in a big way Tuesday night by scoring seven runs in the first-three innings en route to a 13-3 victory.
Bunceton coach Yancy Cody said the boys didn’t play as well defensively as they should have. “In the later part of the game we started to make more errors,” Cody said. “At the plate we hit pretty good overall. Damion Amidon had two nice doubles, and Jacob Clevenger had nice hits from both the left and right sides of the plate. Will Twenter did a good job on the mound of throwing strikes and letting the fielders back him up. Overall, I’m happy with our performance, it’s a nice win as we go into districts.”
After taking a 7-0 lead into the fourth, the Dragons also had a few setbacks as Otterville rallied back with one in the top-half of the inning and two again in the fifth to cut the lead to five at 7-2. However, in the bottom-half of the sixth, Bunceton exploded for six more runs to win by the mercy rule.
Will Twenter picked up the win on the mound for Bunceton. In four innings, Twenter struck out five batters and gave up one run on one hit and two walks. Andrew Pritchett then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two.
Senior Jacob Clevenger went 3-for-4 in the game for Bunceton with two singles, one double and two RBIs. Damion Amidon was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs while Kyler Tucker added a single, double and two RBIs, Kyle Held with a single, double and one RBI, Will Twenter with two singles and two RBIs, Andrew Pritchett with one single and two RBIs and Darrell Davis and and Will Armstrong each with one single and one RBI.
