Boonville Silver Pirate Band receives multiple awards

After a long year of hard work and practice, 13 Boonville High School instrumental and vocal students earned a Superior rating at the MSHSAA State Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival at the University of Missouri on Thursday, April 25. Vocal students had to perform two songs from memory, one of which had to be in a foreign language. The band students played a prepared song in a small ensemble or a solo accompanied by a pianist.
Before students are eligible to perform at the state level, they must receive a Superior rating at Districts. This year marked the first anniversary of holding Districts at State Fair Community College in Sedalia. When students advance to state, ratings become stricter and it is much more difficult to earn a one rating.
The following vocal students earned a one rating at the State Music Festival: freshman Noah Rogers, sophomore Austin Andrews and senior Forrest Hage. The following band students also earned a 'one' rating: freshman Noah Rogers (on two different solos), sophomores Josh Bailey, Haley Thoma, Brad Brinkmann, Noah Lammers, Cortney Hutson and Caleb Miller, juniors Noah Heaton, Adam Christal and Jessi Matney and seniors Richard Bell and Forrest Hage.
Along with solo and small ensemble competitions, the music programs at BHS also hosted the MSHSAA State Large Ensemble Music Festival on April 5, 10 and 11. The Boonville band and choir received perfect ratings on both sections of the competition; the prepared music and the sight-reading music.
