The Boonville Pirate Baseball Team came prepared to take on Pilot Grove, Wednesday night at Harley Park. Pirate Radio announcer Dane Gregg threw the first pitch to open the night.
Although the pirates got off to a slow start, they soon came back to beat Pilot Grove with a final score of 9-5.
"Pilot Grove is a good quality team and although it was a sloppy game defensively, this was a great baseball game to play for us and them. Fortunately we were able to capitalize on a few of their errors and pick up a win. Caleb Hein did not have his best game of the year but he gutted it out to get his second win of the season," Boonville Pirate Baseball Coach Tim Edwards said.
"I want to thank all the fans that came out to support not only the boys and the game, but even more for Dane. It was a beautiful night to honor him and his battle," Pilot Grove Baseball Coach Clint Poulsen said.
The third inning brought with it the first scores for the evening. Furthermore, each inning thereafter had scores from both teams.
"I was proud of how we battled the entire game and came back after getting down 7-2 to make a game of it, but contrary to what some thought we don't play the game for getting close we play to win and tonight Boonville was the better team. Good luck to coach Edwards and the Pirates as they head into district play next weekend," Poulson said.
