  • 'An Evening of Very Short Plays', by the Turner Hall River Rats for the Arts, performed to a sold out crowd at Turner Hall Sunday evening. Dinner catered by the Settlers Inn provided courses throughout the evening, while three minute plays were performed.
River Rats member Meredith Ludwig said just over 100 people attended the event, including the actors, playwrights and dinner staff. The event, which included enough seating for 80 people, quickly sold out the week prior.
"This event has been enjoyed in the past and seemed to be go over well Sunday night," Ludwig said.
Performers and writers for the event included Boonville High School students.
"It's also great that we get to work with Jill Campbell's theatre students at Boonville High School. These students were writers, actors and one was one of our directors," she said.
The three minute plays allowed a number of actors and actresses to play an assortment of characters.
"The actors love it because they get to play so many parts and it's not a huge time commitment for them like doing an actual feature length play," she said.
Ludwig also said it's always good for writers to hear their work read after only hearing it in their heads during the creative process.
"I think this event demystifies theatre, which can sometimes be a bit intimidating. When your neighbor writes a play you kind of want to go check it out," Ludwig said.
