The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team had deja vu on the road last night against the Marshall Lady Owls.
After beating the Lady Owls 2-0 back on March 28, the Boonville girls soccer team shutout Marshall once again by the identical score of 2-0.
The Lady Pirates, 5-5 overall and 3-5 in the NCMC, had their hands full early on while playing Marshall to a 0-0 score for the first 40 minutes. However, in the second half, Boonville scored twice at the 51 minute mark on a shot by senior Bailey Pfeiffer. Then, at the 69 minute mark, the Lady Pirates added another goal on an assist from Brittany Perry to Sophia Taube.
Boonville also finished the match with eight shots on goal and 21 shot attempts compared to only two shots on goal and eight shot attempts for Marshall.
As for fouls in the match, the Lady Pirates had 13 compared to six for Marshall.
Junior goalie Cassidy Renfrow, meanwhile, finished the match with two saves.
Boonville head coach Tim Brown said other than the beginning of the second half, the girls never really allowed their goal to be threatened and had several scoring chances of their own go begging-like the last time they played Marshall, they hit the woodwork on more than one occasion, and it made for some nervous times. “On the wet grass, we had trouble keeping control of the ball, but we did manage to squeak in a couple goals, though, in the second half,” Brown said.
As for the JV match, Boonville and Marshall played to a 0-0 tie.
The Lady Pirates, 3-3-2 overall, finished the match with four shots on goal and eight shot attempts compared to Marshall’s three shots on goal and eight shot attempts.
Each team had six fouls in the match.
Freshman goalie Haylee Thomas, meanwhile, finished the match with three saves.
Brown said if one would merely look at the state, one would see how evenly these two JV teams were matched. “The JV Lady Pirates played significantly better than their last meeting with the JV Lady Owls, but they couldn’t quite muster up a goal,” Brown said.
